119860 GOLD 1844 C $5 AU58 CAC NGC $12500.00
With a mintage of 2,363 this date is among the scarcest Charlotte Half Eagles. The POPULATION CERTIFIED FOR PCGS AND NGC COMBINED IS ONLY: AU58 (14) 3 WITH CAC AND MS(13) ONLY 2 WITH CAC. Most known are heavily circulated with heavy abrasions and will have poor eye appeal. Not often seen with a sharp strike. Due to the Bechtler mint reputation of producing underweight coins early in 1844, the public for the first time readily accepted mint coins as a medium of exchange. A fire at the mint halted production in 1845 and caused the 1844-C half eagles to see very extensive circulation. Most have been cleaned so you will love the ORIGINAL SURFACES (CAC CERTIFICATION), the BOLD STRIKE, and the LACK OF VERY HEAVY ABRASIONS.
