 | 114265 | GOLD 1854 C $5 XF40 PCGS | $ 4,775.00 |
MINTAGE ONLY 39,283. Among the scarcest of the later date CHARLOTTE GOLD HALF EAGLES. Even though it is better known to be a true rarity now by non-specialists, it is still an underrated coin. Many are weakly struck at the center of the obverse but this one has full LIBERTY lettering, radial lines on all stars except for the 1st two. Some weakness on Liberty s curls. Reverse has some high point weakness. Attractive with some mint luster remaining within the protected areas. Scattered light and some deep marks on both sides as expected. The 1854-C is among the most difficult Charlotte half eagle to find with good luster and good eye appeal. This is the VARIETY 2 DIE - MINTMARK is large and is centered over the upright of the E in FIVE. The weakness in details is due to clogged dies. THE TOTAL KNOWN IS ONLY 140-170. PCGS GRADED POPULATION: XF40 (19) |

MINTAGE 31,847...... TYPICAL SHARP OBVERSE WITH SOME WEAKNESS IN REVERSE FEATURES. The
reverse die was improperly annealed which produced a lack of detail on neck of
