124871GOLD 1843 C $5 AU53 PCGS$ 5,550.00
MINTAGE: 44,277 An interesting transitional year for reverse varieties of half eagles. All Philadelphia, Dahlonega, and the majority of New Oeleans pieces have large letters on the reverse. The 1843-C, however, has small leters on the issues struck from 1938-1842. THIS CHANGED IN 1844 WHEN ALL 4 MINTS EMPLOYED LARGE LETTERS REVERSE. ONE OF THE HARDEST CHARLOTTE HALF EAGLES TO LOCATE IN HIGHER GRADES AU55 AND HIGHER. ALL ORIGINAL LUSTER AND SURFACES GREAT EYE APPEAL. RICH ORANGE GOLD COLORATION. A TRULY SCARCE ISSUE! ALL HAVE TYPICAL STRIKE WEAKNESS OBVERSE AND REVERSE. WEAKNESS ON THE CURLS, EAGLE S RIGHT LEG AND NECK. This date was heavily used in local commerce and well circulated so typically will have numerous deep marks. AN ATTRACTIVE LOWER PRICED ONE LIKE THIS IS EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND.
