A low mintage 40,120 No Motto New Orleans $5 with more details than expected of a VF35 CERTIFIED PCGS GRADE --- LOOKS XF45??. Similiar in rarity to the much lower mintage of the 184O-D $5 Typically is well worn and AU grades are very rare. POPULAR 1ST YEAR OF ISSUE and typically seen in VF & EF. Scarce in AU grade and very scarce in higher grades. The quality of strikes depend on which DIE was used. Narrow Mill coins and and Broad Mill coins do differ. Strikes are usually just average quality with the obverse center weak and a lack of details on the curls. Examples examples do exist that are well struck in the centers. This date is nearly always seen with very heavy abraded surfaces. These were clearly actively used in commerce. .
